Innocent

One year before John Grisham colonised the legal thriller genre, Scott Turow defined it with the multi-million copy best seller Presumed Innocent. You may have seen the movie starring Harrison Ford, who played Rusty Sabich, a United States prosecutor charged with the murder of his sexy and mysterious colleague, Carolyn.
Now, more than twenty years later, the old protagonists are back, in a gripping character driven thriller. Rusty is now a judge standing for a seat on the bench of the Supreme Court. He finds himself charged with the murder of his wife in what seems like a remarkable piece of bad luck. How many people get charged with murder twice in their lives? The prosecutor is his old nemesis, Tommy Molto, a man whose career was blighted when Rusty was acquitted first time round and who is looking to set matters to rights.
Rusty’s son Nat and Anna the sexy law clerk are also key to the story and always in the background is Rusty’s bipolar, beautiful and now very dead wife. This is a fabulous read- cracking pace, plenty of twists and turns, and complex characters trying to live and not merely exist. Highly recommended.
